BRUCE BRUCATO - BMHOF CLASS OF 1998

Rock Guitarist

This versatile guitarist won three consecutive Buffalo Music Awards while with Junction West, while also making his mark as a progressive-rock and fusion-jazz player with acclaimed artists such as Rodan, Gamalon, The Dooleys, and Nora Bucci.

During the 1960s, Brucato and drummer Ted Reinhardt began playing music together at age 12. In the 70's they were joined by Ted's brother, bassist Tom Reinhardt, and keyboardist Rick McGirr, to form the prog-rock group Rodan. Rodan opened for Genesis at the Buffalo stop of their first US tour in December 1973. Genesis was quite taken by their opening act already covering their music at a time when virtually no one had heard of them in the States.

When Rodan folded, the members morphed into Gamalon in the early 80s, adding George Puleo on lead guitar and Tom Schuman on keyboards. Bruce performed live and recorded with Gamalon between 1982 until 2006, showcasing his clean chording, volume swell technique and soloing on the albums Gamalon, Aerial View, Held to the Light, and High Contrast, as well as "Project: Activation Earth" with Gamalon and saxophonist Ernie Watts.

After a series of lineup changes, Gamalon broke up in 2006, but performed a reunion gig in December 2012 that packed one of the largest capacity clubs in Western New York. Later in his career, Brucato also partnered with singer-songwriter Nora Bucci, and Hall of Fame Inducted Members the Dooleys.

Sadly, Bruce Brucato passed away from cancer in January 2014 at age 60, survived by two children, John and Ariel.
